Stocks in South East Europe closed in the green on Wednesday. Montenegro bucked the trend. Romania’s markets were closed due to Children Day public holiday.
European Central Bank (ECB) Executive Board member Fabio Panetta stated that Croatia made the most progress on adopting the euro of seven European Union member states that are outside of the Eurozone. Other countries that the Frankfurt-based institution had assessed are Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Sweden.
All countries except Croatia “have made limited progress overall towards meeting the convergence criteria” and “none of the [six] other countries under review complies with all economic convergence criteria,” Panetta noted. The remaining six member states “need to adjust their legal framework to comply with the requirements under Union law,” he added.
